June, the month of Moonstone, and what a beautiful stone for a beautiful month.
Moonstone comes in a variety of shades and colours, the most notable is the Rainbow moonstone. With flashes of blue and sometimes rainbow, it is part of the labradorite family.
Moonstone is a stone that is associated with intuition, psychic abilities, and clairvoyance. It is said it can help you to connect with the divine feminine within yourself and to access your intuition and inner wisdom.
In Hindu legend, Rainbow Moonstone is said to have been formed by moonbeams whose light fell upon the earth and solidified. The legends also say that if you hold a piece of the crystal in your mouth during a full moon, you will see your future. It is held to be a sacred stone in India and is widely believed to bring good fortune.
In Ancient Rome, this crystal was credited with possessing the properties traditionally associated with the moon, such as romance and fertility.
The finest moonstones are found mainly in Sri Lanka and Southern India. Other varieties occur Australia, Armenia, Mexico, Brazil, and the United States.
This year I have found some beautiful flashy Rainbow Moonstone beads.
The bluest is shown below, though it's hard to pick up the flash of colour on camera. These are beautifully cut rondelle gemstones, 4mm in size.
Next we have a larger rondelle, used to make the matching necklace, bracelet and earrings, shown below.
Finally the 4mm rounds, as shown below and in the necklace at the top of this blog. These are all the way from my US supplier, clearer than the usual white I use, the flash of colour is more subtle but still present in good lighting.
Pop by to my social media to see the stones in video, where you can see the flashes of colour coming through a lot better.
