How to care for your jewellery

Follow these simple care instructions to keep your jewellery looking tip top

Tarnishing and how to prevent it and clean it.

I only sell sterling silver, not plated, however Sterling Silver does naturally tarnish, the positive of sterling silver is that this tarnish is always removable and preventable with the right care.

Silver Jewellery LOVES to be worn, however you may not want to wear daily,

When not being worn, keep it dry and stored away from sunlight, preferably in a ziplock bag; I have loads of these, if you would like one, please request one, also they can be very cheap on eBay/amazon/ikea.

Keep safe from chemicals including perfume, beauty products, suncream, cleaning products.

Definitely remove jewellery before spa, hot tubs, swimming due to the chemicals used,
They will all deteriorate the stones/pearls, silver and wire underneath, and turn the silver black. If this happens, don’t fret, it can be restrung or cleaned.

Ideally remove before shower and bed as this will reduce the time before the bracelet needs a restring due to the extra wear and tear. Many customers do wear in bed and shower without issue, it will just shorten the length of time before it needs a restring (see prices below)

Do not put any strung items or stones in a sterling silver dip; use a Town Talk tissue instead or the Town Talk foam is an excellent product, the dip contains chemicals that can compromise stones and wire, although it’s effective on tarnished silver.

Sterling silver wants to be worn, so keeping it in a jewellery box or the box it comes in, may eventually tarnish in time due to moisture and chemical in the air, if you use ziplock bags, this will slow this down considerably, most of my supplies are kept in ziplocks for years without issue.

Try and avoid catching the handmade jewellery in anything as my items are built in with a ring that will stretch when put under pressure for a safety measure and strung in wire with a break feature. If they do break, please get in contact.

The bracelets can last many years but sometimes the stones can rub on the wire, there is not much you or I can do about this, except learn what to feel for before it snaps to avoid losing parts. If it becomes more flexible or loose, or you start to see wire between the beads, this is a sign it will need a restring.

If you have any problems please get in contact, I can advise specific problems and recommend products to clean, I offer a few services listed below.
